13 Dec Yahoo Fantasy Waiver Rules
If you want to keep your sanity, convince others to switch to FAAB. The risk of bidding $0 for a player is low enough that I get a good sleep instead of trying to save my waiver thread position by being awake for it to be deleted. Note: A player can never be added to a team on the same day a waiver request is made if continuous waivers are used. For example, if a league processing day is Monday, players can never be added on Monday. The deadline to add a player to your team on Monday would be 11:59 p.m. PT on Sunday. Subsequent acquisitions could only be processed the following Monday. Never trust Yahoo to delete at any point (even if they say 12:00 PST). I remember a few days last year when the waivers lasted until 8 a.m. EST to finally clarify. Since other managers can make waiver requests on the players you want, you can increase your chances by making multiple “conditional” claims to add or remove players. The idea is that if 1 claim becomes invalid for any reason, the next claim will be dealt with and you can still get a favorable result. All unmanaged players have waivers at all times.
Requests for exemption are processed on fixed weekdays defined by the Commissioner. If a player is abandoned, they must remain on waivers for a certain number of days before they can be claimed. This number of days is specified by the Cancellation Time parameter. Plus, Google is pretty amazing: www.google.com/search?q=what+time+do+yahoo+waivers+clear when you add or remove a player, it creates a waiver. When juggling multiple waiver requests, it`s easy to prioritize or cancel requests as needed. IIRC last year at Yahoo, if your league`s waiver setting was set to “Gametime-Tuesday,” it`s 12:00 p.m. PST/3:00 a.m. EST every week. When the league draft ends, you can have all unclaimed players immediately available to add or let them go for waiver.
You can only change this setting in the draft (on the Edit League Settings page). Weekly waivers place all unclaimed players on waivers at the beginning of each week. There are 3 start times to choose from, but each type has the same end time. The waivers expire after 11:59 p.m. PT on Tuesday, so the remaining players can be added by the 1st manager to claim them. Each manager receives a budget to place offers for unclaimed players who are in waiver. The default budget is $100, but the commish of a private league can adjust the budget at their discretion by clicking Free Agent Budget in the Manage Other Teams tab of their commission tools. Players who are not subject to the league`s waiver rules will remain free agents during the week. All unmanaged players will be placed on waivers at the scheduled start time of their game. Players with a week off will be placed on waivers at 17:00 PT on the last day of the game week. DO NOT trust Yahoo`s opt-out periods.
I stayed up about a week ago to pick up Josh Gordon (I dropped a kicker. why the hell?). I looked online to see when waivers go and become free agents. It was 3 o`clock Eastern Time. Since I had no school or work the next day, I decided to stay awake. Note: The waiver period for a player does not begin until the next day. If a player is eliminated on Friday with a 2-day waiver rule (for example) on waivers, the player will be placed on waivers on Saturday and Sunday. Waivers temporarily lock up unclaimed players and give anyone the opportunity to claim them. At the end of this period, all waiver requests will be processed and the manager with the highest waiver priority will receive the player. The league commish can choose the waiver rule and waiver priority to use on the “Change League Settings” page of the “Commissioner” tab. The waiver period ends at 12:00 p.m. PT, but transactions may take longer (sometimes hours) to process.
HOWEVER, as of 12:01 p.m. PT, all players who have not been claimed are free agents and can be picked up, regardless of whether waiver requests have been processed or not. Claimed players remain on waivers and cannot be added. In this mode, all unclaimed players have waivers at any time. When a manager requests the addition of a player, a clock begins, giving other managers the opportunity to claim the same player. Any player who is not on a list will be placed on waivers at the start of the first Power 5 game for that week, with waivers processed 2 days after the end of the week of play. The commish can select “None” for their waiver rule, which will disable waivers for the league. 3 a.m. arrived and the waivers were not released.
Since I stood for so long, I thought, anyway, I`m going to wait a little longer. It can`t be too long, right? False. In the end, I waited until about 6:30 in the morning. So yes, don`t trust Yahoo. This priority corresponds to the “Reverse ranking” priority, except that if a manager`s claim is accepted, that manager falls to the bottom of the priority list. A few years ago, I tried to get up early or stay awake to recover the waivers. A few weeks it cleared up 3-4 hours later than normal. Each time a player is abandoned, they are temporarily frozen for a period of time. The default period is 2 days, but the commish of a private league can change this from 0 to 7 days. Meanwhile, all managers can make a claim to add the player. Waivers that are processed at different times are listed in chronological order and cannot be changed.
All managers are ranked from highest to lowest priority to determine who signs a player. The initial ranking is determined by the league draft. In live or autopick drafts, the last draft position gets the 1st pick and in offline drafts the 1st pick. As I am a night owl, it would sometimes arrive around 3am, but others around 5am. EST. So it varies. Yes, I love those late 3am nights here on the East Coast. If no one claims the player, the player becomes a free agent, which means that anyone can add him to his team almost immediately, without competition from other managers. Multiple claims to drop 1 player for other players: The default period is 2 days, but the commish of a private league can change this from 0 to 7 days. Tuesday night.
Technically 12:00 p.m. PST/3:00 a.m. EST Wednesday. If a manager adds a free agent and drops him on the same day, the player remains a free agent. If Waiver 1 succeeds, Waiver 2 is void because you no longer own Player A, but you still have a chance to get Player D due to Waiver 3. This way, even if someone else wins player B or C, you can still drop player A for player D. 12:00 PM Pacific Time, but volume delays can last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. I just wonder how long I should be standing in California:) Rip joshy boii.
